Why are you fighting to get back the way things were?

Maybe it’s just my observation, but there seem to be a lot of people trying desperately to get back the way things were.

This seems funny to me.

So many people used to complain about their jobs, their bosses, inflexible working arrangements, or just about the way things were in general.

So why fight to get back there?

George Bernard Shaw once said “Reasonable people adapt themselves to the world. Unreasonable people attempt to adapt the world to themselves. All progress, therefore, depends on unreasonable people.”

We have an opportunity that is rare in our fast paced world. The chance to stop, think, and design our new way of doing things. If you think about this this opportunity is one that we should be rather excited by.

Instead of just trying to get back to the way things were BC (Before Covid-19 obviously…), think about your goals, your approach, even your dreams of the future. Are you doing things just because you always have, or are you simply afraid to go against the established way.

If you want to see progress you have to change the world. Since it has begun without us, why not get in and set the direction rather than just get carried along for the ride?

You could just keep calm and carry on….keep to what you always did, bring in the same people you always have to help you on your well trodden path, or send out the same messages to your customers. That’s one way.

Or you could think differently, taking advantage of the chance to try something new, try things that you always dreamed you could, and look back without the regret that you never gave it a go. You just might find that the world changes along with you.

The choice, as Shaw says, is up to you!
